Are You Ready To Lose Weight? An Inner Discovery
Are you ready to lose weight? Does that seem like a silly question? There is an almost indescribable readiness factor that comes into play when a person is trying to lose weight permanently. The lifestyle changes that you need to adapt to drop body fat can be pretty painless, but you really have to be ready to do so. This is a key point. Small lifestyle changes will help you lose weight. This type of weight loss can be slow, but it's permanent because it suits your life. So why haven't you lost weight and why aren't you ready to make these small changes?
Here are some things to consider on your weight loss journey.
1. In order for you to examine where you are now, you need to look at where you have been. Think about your prior attempts at weight loss:
1a. -what was the most successful method that you used to lose weight?
1b. -what happened that made you stop using this method?
1c. -did your weight loss plan include exercise?
1d. -if you lost weight, how long did you keep it off for?
-KEY POINT: when you started to gain the weight back, what exactly happened? (to clarify: did you end your diet because it was too restrictive? what was going on in your life at the time (i.e. high stress level?))
You need to examine what your "downfall" was so that you can prevent it from happening again.
2. Do you know how to make yourself a priority in your life?
Many people, especially women tend to put other people's needs in front of their own. This is a wonderful characteristic, but at what point are you hurting yourself because you are not taking care of your health? Being overweight, especially if you are obese contributes to many disease states, including Type 2 diabetes and coronary artery disease.
3. Is there never a "right" time because you are too busy? Do you use the "I'll start Monday" excuse to binge?
These are heavy things to think about, but they may help you to unlock the door to the things that are holding you back.
Print out this page. Find time within the next 2 days to sit down with a pen and paper and examine the above questions. Write everything down and then affirm what you really want and need for yourself.
Next, write 3 clear statements that will remind you what you need for yourself. Add some motivational thoughts and quotes if it suits you. Each morning when you wake up and each evening, repeat these statements. Put them on an index card and carry it with you as a reminder of your intent.
It's never too late to have a healthy body and a healthy lifestyle that includes diet and exercise. Research show that people that start strength training in their 70's build lots of muscle and significantly improve their fitness levels.
